Abstract
Comparison of Hemoglobin Levels Using Reflectometric Photometry Method and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate-Hemoglobin Method. Era Fasira¹, Asdinar², Fatimah³
Hemoglobin (Hb) is the main component of red blood cells that functions to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide. Hemoglobin level testing is essential for anemia screening and diagnosis. Two commonly used methods for hemoglobin testing are the Reflectometric Photometry method and the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate-Hemoglobin (SLS-Hb) method, each with its own advantages and limitations. This study aims to compare hemoglobin levels using two different methods: Reflectometric Photometry and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate-Hemoglobin (SLS-Hb). This research employed a comparative quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 50 individuals, and the sample included 29 aerobic exercise participants. The study found that hemoglobin levels measured using the hematology analyzer were higher (mean 13.36 g/dL) than those measured using the Reflectometric Photometry method (mean 12.11 g/dL). The Wilcoxon test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two methods. These findings suggest that although the Reflectometric Photometry method is practical for use in primary care, its accuracy is lower compared to laboratory methods, thus its use as a screening tool should be carefully considered.
